Description: Did you know that there are sign languages besides ASL? ASL is not a universal language, but just one of many signed language utilized by Deaf communities around the world. But you don't have to travel to learn more - your local Deaf community is equally diverse. Attend this FREE interactive event and meet local Deaf representatives from more than 7 countries.

14TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC BOWL
Time: 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.
Building/Room: Wojcik Conference Center, Amphitheater, W214/215 (park in lot 13)
Description: High schools will compete in the mental-sharpening competition covering art/literature, Deaf studies, entertainment, math and technology, science and social studies. The defending champion is John Hersey and the runner up is Lemont.
Free pizza lunch will be provided for everyone!

PRESENTATION: ISLAMIC CHALLENGES: BACKGROUND AND CURRENT EVENTS IN ASIA EAST AND NORTH AFRICA AND ISLAMIC IMPACT ON THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY
PRESENTER: Abbas Behmanesh

Description: Abbas Behmanesh is a prominent member of the international Deaf community. He has lived in Japan, Canada and the United States and has worked with Deaf associations in Winnipeg, Washington DC, Calgary and Toronto to provide literacy, HIV information and other services to the Deaf community.
In his home country of Iran, he has contributed a number of articles about Iranian Deaf people's Persian Sign Language and has acted as president of the Iranian Deaf Studies Foundation from 2006 to the present. Behmanesh is fluent in six languages, including four signed languages, one of them being American Sign Language.
Behmanesh will discuss Islamic history, influence, practice, revolution and impact on the world , as well as Islamophobia.
Light refreshments will be provided.

Description: This Expo is the foremost touring trade show for, by, and about deaf people. They provide exhibitions and entertainment around the United States at no charge to the public. Their philosophy is that free admission brings a diversity of attendees who can share their culture, needs, language, and information.

NEW ASL FILM: VERSA EFFECT

Synopsis: From their childhood years to working at a Deaf school in Texas. Jackie and Seth have always love to..HATE each other! The fact that they are working closely in the same school did not help matters. For all their bad blood with each other, something bad had happened to them: their bodies have been switched! What follows is a series of laugh-a-minute hijinks as Jackie and Seth struggle to get back to their bodies. Because of that, they have no choice but to work together in order to save themselves. With time running out, Jackie and Seth must find a way to get back in their bodies before they get stuck in the opposite sex of bodies forever! Versa Effect is the first comedy film directed by the venerable Mark Wood. Versa Effect is filmed in the vein of Freaky Friday that will be enjoyed by everyone of all ages!
