12TH ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC BOWL

Building/Room: Building J Theater
Description: Several high schools will compete in the mental-sharpening competition covering art/literature, Deaf studies, entertainment, math and technology, science and social studies. The defending champion is Hinsdale South and the runner up is District 230.

NEW ASL FILM: UNIVERSAL SIGNS
Time: 8:00 – 9:40 p.m.

Description: After the death of his fiancée’s daughter while in his care, Andrew (Anthony Natale, Mr. Holland’s Opus), a Deaf artist, becomes a prisoner of his own mind. Tormented day and night by memories and self-blame, Andrew falls in a downward spiral of depression and anger that alienates everyone around him. Description: This Expo is the foremost touring trade show for, by, and about deaf people. They provide exhibitions and entertainment around the United States at no charge to the public. Their philosophy is that free admission brings a diversity of attendees who can share their culture, needs, language, and information.

NEW ASL FILM: GERALD

Description: This film is a journey of a young man, Corey, yearning for kinship until one day discovers he has a deaf autistic grandfather he has never knew, Corey was determined to make connection regardless.  The family ties and secrets unbeknownst to the young man has surfaced, and all the events suddenly unfold.  Soon afterwards, the discovery leads to chain of events that entwines the young man to the unknown.  A powerful, emotional and continuous twist of events that leads to shocking truth.  Rated PG
